Is woodworking something you’ve always wanted to do? In this 2-day course, we’ll use affordable, easily accessible hand tools to build a tool tote that will safely carry the tools you used to build it.
We’ll learn the mechanics of how the tools work as well what to look for when
expanding your kit. We’ll learn how to select wood and “read the grain” to get the best results. There will be some joinery techniques used that will make your tool tote both attractive as well as functional. This course will build your skills so that you can make other useful things with the tools and know-how you gain.
On day one, we’ll learn about hand tool concepts, tote design, marking and measuring, layout, and cutting.
On day two, we’ll learn about wood selection, fasteners and adhesives, joinery styles, assembly and glue-up, and squaring. We’ll also discuss how to decide what other tools you may or may not need in your collection.
When you’re done, you’ll go home with a handmade tool tote filled with a set of basic tools, and skills you can put to use on other projects.
Laurel Dahill was born into a family of artists, and has been a creator in multiple disciplines. Working in theatre and film for 15- years, Laurel learned the basics of construction and finishing.
During the pandemic, like so many others, Laurel found she had the time to explore a creative pursuit, and that has become a growing passion: hand tool woodworking.
Using time-tested techniques and tools, Laurel makes heirloom-quality furniture. From small keepsake boxes, to tables, chairs and cabinets, each piece is crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail.
